Copy of Rubrics and Developmental Progressions
As discussed in these blog posts, we love the style of rubrics described in Patrick Griffin's book 'Assessment for Teaching'. In trying to keep to the style and rules he outlines for rubrics, we have developed some of our own developmental progression rubrics available to download for free below. They are currently tailored to the Victorian Curriculum, however we will be releasing rubrics that are also tailored to the Australian Curriculum shortly!
Whilst our rubrics are not perfect (we have definitely broken some of the 'rules'), we have found they have helped us, as well as numerous other teachers to be able to track student growth and achievement over the course of years and inform teaching practices in a way that we were not able to do before.
These rubrics have been tested in schools, but we encourage you to continually review these rubrics and tweak them as you need to. These rubrics do not cover every aspect of the curriculum, but they form a broad guide to inform teachers and students of their overall progress and allow specific areas of the curriculum to be targeted.
When using these rubrics, you do not need to use the whole rubric to assess every activity - simply choose the criteria and levels that are suitable for your classroom context. When we use these rubrics, we regularly take the 'level' column out so that students can focus on what they have achieved and what the next step is, rather than focusing on a grade.
Use these rubrics in conjunction with our Rubric Analysis and Tracking products. Sign up to our newsletter below to hear about when new rubrics and tracking tools are released.
